Privacy Policy

Backflow Testing Sydney (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we handle it, and how you can access it, correct it or complain. Last updated: 2 September 2026

The personal information we collect

For customers and enquirers, we collect your name, business name, email address, phone number, the address of the property we are asked to work on, details of the work requested and carried out, booking and payment records, and any correspondence between us. For business contacts we approach, we collect the person’s name, their job title or role, their work email address, their work phone number, and the name and website of the business they work for. We do not collect sensitive information as that term is used in the Privacy Act 1988, and we do not knowingly collect information about children.

How we collect it

From customers and enquirers, we collect information directly from you: when you call us, complete a form on our website, book or pay for a job, or correspond with us. From business contacts, we collect the information from sources that are already published: the business’s own website, publicly available business directories, and public professional listings. We record the web page each business contact’s details came from, and if you ask us where we got your details we will tell you.

Why we collect it and what we do with it

For customers, we use your information to quote for work, carry it out, book and confirm appointments, invoice and take payment, meet our record-keeping obligations, remind you when a periodic test such as an annual backflow test is due, and answer you when you get in touch. For business contacts, we use your work contact details to offer plumbing services relevant to your role, and for nothing else. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, and we never will.

Direct marketing, and how to stop it

Every marketing email we send carries a way to unsubscribe. You can also reply to any message and ask us to stop, or use the contact details below. We will action it promptly and in any case within 5 business days, and once you opt out we will not contact you again for marketing on any of our services. We keep a record of your address on a do-not-contact list for the sole purpose of making sure we do not contact you again.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where we need to:
  • with service providers who help us run the business, including our job management and booking software, our email and cloud storage provider, our email sending platform, and our payment processor;
  • with contractors who carry out or arrange work for us, bound to use it only for that purpose;
  • with our professional advisers, such as our accountant; and
  • where we are required or authorised by law to do so.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the providers we use store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. Some of the contractors and service providers who work for us are located outside Australia as well. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to require them to handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles and only for the purpose we engaged them for. Because these providers operate in a number of countries, it is not always practicable to list every country in which your information may be held.

How we keep it, and for how long

We hold information in the business systems described above, protected by access controls and passwords, and we limit access to the people who need it to do their job. We keep customer records for as long as we need them for the work, for reminders for periodic testing, and to meet our legal and tax obligations. We keep business contact details for as long as they are useful for the purpose above, and we remove them when they are no longer accurate or no longer needed. Records of people who have opted out are kept indefinitely, only so that we can keep honouring the opt-out. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us over the internet.

Getting access to your information, or correcting it

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it if it is wrong, out of date, incomplete or misleading. Write to us using the contact details below. We will respond within a reasonable time, normally 30 days. There is no charge for asking, and we will only charge for access if the request takes substantial work, in which case we will tell you the cost before we start. If we refuse a request we will tell you why in writing. You can also ask us to delete your details, and unless we are required to keep them we will.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, tell us first, using the contact details below. We will acknowledge your complaint and respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, by phone on 1300 363 992, or by writing to GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001.
